SERVICES
Yoga for balance for the body, the mind and the spirit.
My style of yoga teaches compassionate awareness for a holistic yoga practice, linking body, mind and spirit. I will guide you through a gentle exploration of yogic philosophy, posture technique and breathing exercises for a focused and safe inquiry into the  the yoga experience of meditation in motion.

A Boston University School of Medicine study found that practicing yoga can boost your mood more effectively than walking. Just one hour of yoga three times a week can increase GABA levels by 13 percent. GABA is a neurotransmitter in the brain that is lower in people who are depressed.  Do yoga.  Be happy!

Yoga also strengthens the immune system, regulates heart rate, relaxes the nervous system, massages internal organs and flushes toxins. Yoga helps maintain muscle strength and flexibility and lubricate joints.  And restorative yoga postures can help with insomnia and release deep-seated tension in the body and "restore" the body to a balanced state.

Meditation for inner harmony, relaxation and deepening awareness and mental acuity.
Did you know that a regular meditation practice can help with symptoms of seasonal blues and anxiety?  It can bring clarity to the mind and help awaken a deeper, more focused and more creative level of awareness.  Be in control of your thoughts and actions by operating from  a more relaxed state, one in which you observe and then act with purpose, rather than react with impulsivity.

A regular meditation practice can activate the "relaxation response," coined by Dr. Herbert Benson to describe the slower heart rate, metabolism, rate of breathing, lower blood pressure and slower brain waves, just the opposite of the "flight or fight" response, characterized by anxious, unclear thinking.

As an added bonus, meditation can increase joy!  Richard Davidson and colleagues at the University of Wisconsin studied brain activity in students and discovered that those who meditated showed an increase in brain activity in the left prefontal cortex, an area identified as having more activity in people with a  positive temperaments.  Meditate!  Be happy!
